Here are the signs you've got raccoons in your attic

How to tell if there are raccoons in your attic?

Below, you’ll find out how to be sure of the signs that there are raccoons in your attic.

Raccoon removal can be a challenging process and is best left to the experienced experts at AAAC Wildlife Removal. One small mistake can cause serious damage to your home or put your family and pets at risk.

Sounds in your attic

In case you’re hearing footfalls above you, it’s a sure-fire sign that a raccoon is in the attic. No other pest is sufficiently large to make stepping footfalls that loud. Squirrels will rush and dance around, yet a raccoon will make it seem like a little person is up there.

They are incredibly vocal creatures, too, mainly when children are involved. When around their kits, the mothers will be considerably more vocal. Concerning the little ones, when they are not sleeping, they are usually crying out for their mother.

You may also hear something strolling over the rooftop; this is another of the regular signs a raccoon is in the attic in transit back to its nest or out to forage. This generally occurs around dusk and dawn.

Nesting Materials

If you suspect there is a raccoon infestation in your attic, look for any indications of nesting materials. Raccoons will make themselves at home by creating warm little nests to ball up in.

They are genuinely intelligent creatures and will utilize pretty much anything to build their nest.

They’ll acquire scraps and materials from outside, including leaves, twigs, and general discarded refuse. However, they’ll also destroy insulation found in the attic to make bedding. If you notice twigs and leaves scattered about your attic, this is one of the most well-known signs you’re facing a raccoon.

Scat

Another approach to telling if you have raccoons in the attic is to look—or sniff—for scat. Raccoons will utilize one region of your attic as a toilet, as opposed to leaving defecation everywhere.

Raccoon droppings are quite pungent, and you’ll probably be able to smell a little scat from far away.
